Desert Bloom: A Drink Fit for A Princess (or Prince)

Another installment of Broadway Libations: This drink is perfect for sharing with your B.G.F (Best.Genie.Forever)… it is great for Arabian Nights and wooing beautiful princesses… Also provides courage for fighting ugly bad guys while singing.

Ingredients:

2 oz Vodka
1 oz Elderflower Liqueur
1 oz Lemon Juice
½ oz Cardamom-Rose Syrup (recipe follows)
2 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
Splash of Seltzer

Mix all ingredients except seltzer in a shaker with ice. Serve on the rocks in your favorite high ball glass topped with a splash of seltzer. Garnish with a twist of lemon and edible rose petals.

Cardamom-Rose Simple Syrup
1 cup water
1/2 cup Rose Water (food grade, not the kind for cosmetic use)
1 cup sugar
1 heaping cup rose petals, rinsed (the darker your petals, the more color you will get)

¼ cup whole organic cardamom pods (lightly crushed)

  • Heat the water, rose water, sugar, cardamom and rose petals in a small saucepan until it comes to a simmer, stirring to dissolve the sugar.  Simmer gently for 5 minutes.
  • Let the liquid cool, then strain into a jar or bottle with a tight fitting lid.
  • Refrigerate until ready to use.  It will keep for a month.
