Restaurant Review: Acacia Midtown Richmond

After hearing about Acacia Restaurant for years, I finally made an excuse to go and enjoy a meal with my restaurant loving partner in crime…. I have to say, I wish we hadn’t waited so long to enjoy one of RVA’s greatest restaurants!

We arrived just as they were opening because we wanted to enjoy a cocktail before we sat for dinner. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable. The craft cocktail list was very unique, which is saying something considering the craft cocktail scene in Richmond. I ordered a drink, and Kathy enjoyed a glass of wine from their well-curated offerings. The cocktail I ordered was beautifully presented and very tasty, however (this is my only criticism of the entire experience) it was served in a very small coupe style glass and the bartender literally put a rosette made out of an ENTIRE lemon peel in the middle of the drink leaving only a couple of ounces left in the glass for the actual drink. It was so delicious, but I wish it would have been a little bit larger. The flavor of the drink wouldn’t have suffered at all with a small sliver of zest… but alas….

Then we were seated for dinner. Our server was lovely and the menu looked seasonal, fresh and delicious. We started with the squash blossoms and the roasted beet salad, both of which were fabulous. The sheep’s milk ricotta in the middle of the blossoms was absolutely delicious. The beets were tender and the greens were fresh and crisp.

We selected a Pouilly-Fumé which complemented the delicate meal quite well. For dinner, we ordered the scallops with gnocchi and the crab cake.

The scallops were perfectly cooked and the sauce was incredibly flavorful. Kathy’s crab cake was seriously 99 percent crab with the tiniest bit of binder. It was SO good. We are also always on the search for awesome macaroni and cheese, so we couldn’t help ourselves but to order a side and share it. To be frank, there wasn’t a speck left at the end of the meal. I highly recommend coming to Acacia Midtown for a special meal and enjoying the exceptional food and service and the lovely surroundings.
